Flute Project

Here is the process of what I did with this flute:

We got these instruments and they were very dirty and worn out. Mine was tarnished and had marks all over. There were a lot of dents as well. You can see a huge dent in the mouth plate in the picture below...


The head joint tennon was also banged up



Some pads were falling out



And someone did a poor solder job and burned away some plating....




I cleaned the keys and body and silver dipped them to get off most of the tarnish... I finished cleaning with some silver polish to make them shiney...
















I straightened the dents in the body and head joint including the mouth plate...



I was just about finished key fitting when....

Oh no! The ring came off! It was loose and needed to be resoldered on.


After the ring was soldered, the keys were fit, and padding was done, I did a final polish on the flute. I think it turned out well... It plays like a flute and sounds better than any student model flute that I have played. I am sure it is not perfect but I did my best to fix it.


I also made that solder mark look a lot better...
